5 for Friday- Quick Make Up Favorites

So I thought today I would take my 5 for Friday and tell you about my all time (for right now) favorite make up must haves.

Make up must haves

Make up must haves.                                                            Please don’t think I can’t count (there’s a bonus in there)!

1.  NYX  Push Up Bra for your eyebrows-

Best Eyebrow Pencil EVER!

Best Eyebrow Pencil EVER!

(Only one color) I love this eyebrow pencil.  I think that it makes a huge difference in your look when you use it.  I think that it finishes off your look.  I also think that in a pinch filling in your eyebrows makes you look so much more put together.

Neutral eyebrow color and a high lighter in one!

2.  Make up Forever Aqua Cream eyeshadow- (I have “16” and can’t wait to get some more)

Make Up Forever- Aqua Cream

I love how quick and easy this stuff is.  It has a good color pay off and staying power.  I have a pink one and it is great for days when I want a little sparkle with not too much effort.  I also love the fact that I can use my finger to apply it quickly and I don’t have to worry about blending it all that much.

3.  L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara-

All time FAVORITE mascara!

All time FAVORITE mascara!

This stuff is my ALL time favorite mascara EVER.  I have found that you have to use it a couple of times before it thickens up enough to be awesome.  I love how it separates my lashes and also thickens them up.  I find that it is a little Lengthening too.  AMAZING stuff!  My best friend found that they make this stuff in waterproof so the best just got even better!

4.  Clinique Quickliner for eye intense-

Quickliner- GREAT stuff!

Quickliner- GREAT stuff!

(I have “03 Intense Chocolate”) I started using this stuff over the summer and I love how fine the tip is.  I am able to add a little eyeliner right along my lash line without any effort.  I use it in dark brown which is great for days when I want to get together quickly without a lot of effort or drama.  I also love the staying power… I literally had to scrub my hand with a baby wipe to get my swatch off!

5.  Covergirl Clean Glow blush-

(I have “100 Roses”) I just recently started using this stuff and I love how natural the blush looks on me.  I can use whatever I have left over on my brush the next day (if I’m rushing, which NEVER happens.  LOL!) and it delivers a nice light flush for the day.

6.  Clinque Almost Lipstick-

Almost lipstick

Almost lipstick

(I have “Black Honey”)  I love that this “lipstick” color looks great on EVERYONE!  It gives a light wash of color that can be built up.  It also isn’t thick enough to look dramatic.  This is my go to “running out the door and need some color on my lips” product.

Would y’all be interested in my quick make up routine?  I think its great for moms, student, teens,  or anyone who NEVER has enough time but wants to look put together.  Let me know what you think.  I’m now running late to go see my best friend!  Looks like I’ll be using all these products today!  Have a great weekend!  Happy Friday the 13th!

Oil Control or No?

So I had this whole post written, tried to add a link to a product and lost the whole thing.  Arrrgh!

So on to  the review. I recently watched a YouTube video where the girl mentioned a Cetaphil cleanser for oily skin.  I can’t for the life of me remember what it was called or who made it.  Only that she was from Canada.  (I don’t know how I remember these little facts and not the important things!)

I was excited and thrilled by the idea that there was something on the market for me.  I tried the original Cetaphil when I was a teenage with acne and VERY sensitive skin due to acne treatments and didn’t really like it.  It felt like it didn’t get my skin clean enough.  So I couldn’t wait to get my oily hands on this new cleanser.  It is the Cetaphil DERMACONTROL- Oil Control Facewash (found here).  And I have to say I like it, so far.  The price point wasn’t bad.  I have paid a lot more for clensers that are now taking up space under my sink.  I was able to find it at my local CVS.

The website says “Gentle, calming cleanser for acne-prone skin. Cetaphil® DERMACONTROL Oil Control Foam Wash is clinically proven to effectively remove excess oil, impurities and make-up that can clog pores and lead to breakouts.”  I like the fact that it is a foam.  For some reason foams actually make me feel cleaner.  The foam in the Cetaphil was is literally a pump foam.  Like the Bath and Body Works foaming antibacterial hand soaps.  It has a decent scent to it.  It reminds me of the other Cetaphil products.  Not my favorite facewash smell but it doesn’t linger so it doesn’t bother me.  I feel like it gets rid of the oil and preps my skin for moisturizer and make-up to follow.  I use 2-3 pumps in the shower each morning.  I have noticed that I have less breakouts.  I have also noticed that when “that time of the month” rolled around I didn’t have ANY major breakouts.  Major bonus!  I will be sticking with this cleaner for a while.  I wish they would make a scrub to use occasionally.

The full-sized bottle came with a sample of the Cetaphil DERMACONTROL- Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30.  I used the sample in about a week.  I lie.  I went out and bought a full-sized bottle even before I opened the sample.  But I did use the whole sample before I used the full-sized one.  Promise!  It can be found here.

Here is what the website says “Lightweight moisturizer with SPF for acne-prone skin. Hydrate, protect and control shine with this 3-in-1 moisturizer. Cetaphil® DERMACONTROL Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30 is specifically formulated for acne-prone skin. Fortified with advanced zinc, ceramide and oleosome technologies, this moisturizer with SPF is clinically proven to manage oily skin. It provides broad spectrum sun protection and controls shine – without over-drying skin.”

I was stoked that I could have possibly found an oil controlling moisturizer with SPF 30.  The moisturizer didn’t live up to my hopes.  I noticed that it stings a little when I fist put it on (like sunblock) after I wash my face.  I also noticed that there are these little pebbles (?) that don’t break up, no matter how much I rub my fingers and palms together before I put it on my face.  I have also noticed that if I don’t wear a primer over it, it makes my face look really oily at the end of the day.  I have also noticed that without a primer over it, it makes my make up float on top of my skin.

I did over the weekend mix one pump (as opposed to the two I normally use) moisturizer with a small amount of my regular foundation and was able to create a nice light coverage tinted moisturizer.  I also noticed that when I did this I didn’t look too oily at the end of the day.  Perhaps I have stumbled upon a new/quicker make-up routine?

Anyone else try new products this week?  Tell me about your favorite facewash or moisturizer.  I love trying new stuff!

Target Haul

I was watching this video earlier this week (Beauty Broadcast) and couldn’t wait to go out to my local Target  and snatch up these products.

I was able to find:

1. Pixie Correction Concentrate- Brightening Peach-

Pixi Concealer

The idea is that the peach coloring will counter-act the blue tones under your eyes due to lack of sleep, stress, etc.  I like this stuff in concept.  I have really oily skin and it seems to crease on my under eyes.  Which sucks because after the time change it would be really nice not to look like the walking dead.  LOL!

Pixi Up Close

I am going to try this a couple more times different ways to see if I like it better.  Today I tried wearing it without powder over it, which is working better coverage wise but it is still creasing.

2. CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1- Natural Beige-

Tried this and immediately threw it in my “probably will never use again” bin.  I don’t know what it was… maybe the color was wrong.  I did notice that later in the night (day for me) I looked a little more yellow than I wanted to.  Perhaps it was the NYX Matte Not Flat Powder Foundation I put over it.  After writing this paragraph I feel like I should give it another shot… Ok so fine, I’ll pull it out of the never again bin and try one more time. **update:  I did try it again without the powder today and I already like it better.**

3. Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer-

Revlon Primer

Not the one in the video but one that I’m enjoying. I was total bummed about not being able to find the primer that Emily talked about in the video.  I have probably the most oily skin on the planet.  Mom says that it’s actually a good thing and it helps prevent wrinkles.  Well, I am grateful for that.  I have noticed that people my age are starting to look really old!  How did that happen?!  Any-who, I swear my face eats my make-up.  Perhaps it is the fact that I work long shifts (think 10-12 hours) and in not the best conditions (HOT in the summer and cold in the winter).  By the end of my shift I either look like my make-up is sitting on top of my face or it has smeared off/looks streaky.

I have tried several different primers (this one, this one, this one, and this one (probably my favorite)) and I’m not really impressed with any of them.  Perhaps my expectations are too high for what I think a primer should do.  My expectation is that I will have a nice matte finish for the day.  Is that too much to ask for?!

If you use a great primer comment below and let me know.  I’d really like to hear about it.
